Shingle treatment

Asphalt Shingle Roof Rejuvenation in Clearwater

For shingle roofs that look faded and feel stiff but still lie flat: a spray-applied treatment that puts flexibility back into the asphalt and slows granule loss, done in a few hours on a dry day.

What the treatment does for an aging shingle

An asphalt shingle is a mat soaked in asphalt and topped with mineral granules. The asphalt stays supple only while it holds its natural oils, and the sun here pulls those oils out year after year. Once they are gone the shingle stiffens, hairline cracks appear and the granules wash loose.

The treatment is a plant-based oil misted across every slope. It is absorbed by the dried asphalt, so the shingles can flex in the wind and heat again instead of cracking. It is a way to keep a sound roof going, not a cure for a damaged one, which is why we assess the roof first.

What a treatment visit includes

The visit is planned around your roof and the forecast.

  • A check that the shingles still bend rather than snap
  • Algae and debris cleared first, by soft washing if needed
  • Gutters, plants, cars and screen enclosures covered before spraying
  • Even coverage slope by slope, with nothing pooled or missed
  • Clean-up of any overspray on siding, windows or walkways
  • A check-in call once a big storm has passed

Is your shingle roof a good candidate?

Usually a good fit

  • Shingles that look faded or chalky but still lie flat
  • Granules collecting in gutters or at the downspouts
  • A roof that is aging but has no active leaks
  • An owner who wants more years before replacing

Needs something else

  • Leaks, soft decking or sagging: a job for a roofer first
  • Bare mat showing across whole slopes
  • Tile roofs, which get cleaning and sealing instead

Shingle treatment questions

Will the shingles look different afterward?

Most owners notice the roof looks a little richer and more even in color once it dries, rather than shiny or wet. It does not change the shingle color.

Do I need to be home while you work?

Not usually. We need access to the yard and a water spigot, and we ask that cars are moved off the driveway. We call when we arrive and when we are done.

Could your shingles take a treatment?

A visit answers that. We bend-test the shingles, look over the whole roof and tell you plainly whether treatment is worth it.
